Scratchalan beta preview => ready for testing

Hi,

Rudla and me are happy to show you an beta version of the Scratchalan NES development system.

Its based on M.I.T Scratch and generates with the ATALAN compiler executable rom's that run on emulator or on the real Hardware.

 

The programm runs on Windows systems.

 

This version is still limited and can contain some errors on the IDE side or in the compiler.

We hope you have fun with playing with it.

 

In the tools folder is an background editor included called NESST (coded by Shiru).

Visit http:// shiru.untergrund.net for more information about it.

 

An simple tutorial for creating an simple game will follow soon.

 

But for the first time, do these simple steps to load an example project.

 

1) deRAR file in a local folder on your HDD

2) go into the Scratchalan folder and execute the Scratch.exe

3) then go to the Filemenu and select Open

4) seek the directory where you deRAR the programm and go into the examples folder

5) then choose the simple file and select ok

6) now the project should be loaded

7) you will see some blocks and a commantary

8) if you press now the green flag on top right, the programm will compile and executed in the fceux emulator.

 

Three examples are included

1- Bouncing balls

2-An not finished pong clone

3-An startet TicTacToe game

It turns out my Windows 7 machine was using the Standard VGA Drivers.  NESST did not like the base video drivers that come with Win7.  Problem solved :)

It seems that Scratchalan only supports import of .NAM files for Backgrounds and Costumes.  .NAM is one of the file formats NESST uses so I hope to make some sprites and backgrounds soon.

How do you make and import sprites?  The NESST tool runs very sloooow.

 

You may consider integrating Bob Rosts tools for making and converting NES sprites.  They are public domain too!
