.CHR fonts
Here are some .CHR fonts that you are free to use and modify for game development.
Gumdrop and Sprout are 8x8 fonts with four variations each. Chickpea is a 16x16 font.

You may want to be careful when using 1 pixel wide fonts. Unfortunately they will be mostly unreadable on CRTs and impossible to read on LCD screens. They are pretty though!
