Math based RPG

A few weeks back I posted a blog about creating an RPG game for the NES with math based combat and puzzles.  Kind of like a Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy with Math questions as your challenges.I…Continue

Possible alternative 8bit console that's open source.

A while back I was doing my own research on consoles and handhelds, trying to figure out the cheapest designs.  Of course the vast majority of DIY projects tend to range in the $60-100+ range, which…Continue

Heres a good solution, the PoGa kit.

http://shop.4dsystems.com.au/poga-portable-gaming-console/289-poga.html I recently got an email from 4dsystems, since I get some rare updates from then and found this. Its a complete kit to create a full hand held with pretty good graphic and sound capabalities for just 50. Consider if you don't need a screen and convert it into a console it could be much cheaper without the Screen. That and they give…See More

Cheap 32 bit console that's less than $5?

http://rossum.posterous.com/20131601 I recently ran accross this project and it looks very promising for developing a cheap universal computer for developing nations.  The basic parts needed add up to a couple of dollars. Previously I had menitoned the UzeBox and Fuze box model, but that costs around 100usd. Also I had found someone making a cheaper version that falls around 50usd, called the AmuzeBox However I think this project is more in…See More

Math based RPG

A few weeks back I posted a blog about creating an RPG game for the NES with math based combat and puzzles.  Kind of like a Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy with Math questions as your challenges.I got some feed back from some friends on my 64digits site and have teamed up with Harrison Lee who has been very helpful in working out the story and dialog.  Also added in a few good ideas to improve the story and general game play.In the mean time I've been converting graphics and creating some tile…See More

A while back I was doing my own research on consoles and handhelds, trying to figure out the cheapest designs.  Of course the vast majority of DIY projects tend to range in the $60-100+ range, which is too much to say the least. However I think there's a lot of promise in the concept behind the FUZEbox, UZEbox and possible cheaper versions. There are a bunch of tools, docs and specs for it, you can find out more here on the UZEbox. Now it could be…See More

Math based RPG concept

When I came across this project, I thought it would be interesting to create my own NES game for this system. I've long been a fan of it and enjoy a good challange. The 3 color per 8x8 tile is a new one for me.So first thing I did beside reading up on nBasic was play around with a few of the sprites I've made for previous games of mine. The one that faired the best, and seemed like the easist game to make was an RPG I created a long while back(maybe 10 years ago) for VERGE.Lately I've been…See More

How would you like to help Playpower?
I would like to create a few programs/games for your platform. I've personally considered the creation of a TV set device for gaming but could never find parts cheap enough to keep the cost down. After hearing of your super-affordable system, I'm interested in creating a few titles for the device that are either educational or for entertainment.
