David Dahl commented on Noah Vawter's blog post 'A Closer look at SUBOR cartridges'
The Subor cartridge is geared for the one-chip mode of the VT02 NES-on-a-chip used in the Subor game/computer system. It would likely work on other VT02 based systems, but won't work on a real Famicom or NES as the bus is different. The VT02…

Are these cartridges the same as those offered by other manufacturers offering mice with their famiclones? Has someone dumped this rom to see if it works with the powerPak with the 60 to 72 pin converter?

Hey all, Derek asked if the C64 porting work I've been doing is based on source code or ROMS.So, I've been working with disk images (.T64 and .D64, which emulators read). I'm trying to turn them into ROM images. My basic tactic is load them into an emulator and save snapshots of the memory. This is the minimal effort way ;) It will work easiest for games that load completely into RAM then never access the disk device again. So far, it looks like Master Type is the first candidate!Disk ImagesThe…See More

A Closer look at SUBOR cartridges

SUBOR comes with two cartridges. One is a glop-top. The other has two commercial parts:

1. Parallel Flash chip (512KB): SSTVF040 DataSheet

2. 8KB SRAM chip: BR6265AF DataSheet

I'm short on time right now, but please check out this .zip release which has PDF datasheets for those two chips and pictures of the insides of the carts. noahSUBORcartChips.zip…

Commodore Emulator Challenge

As you know, PlayPower has been challenged to provide educational software on a low-cost platform. For example, one of our early research papers showed that simple typing software would help many people find jobs. Some of the them are in the US, many are around the world.

So we're looking at classic learn-to-type software for 8-bit platforms! We would like to offer others the same chance to learn to type… Continue

Graphical frontend for FCEU based on GTK2 and Python 2.6

FCEU, the SDL-based NES emulator, has a graphical user interface! This could be very useful. To use it, you'll need python 2.6! Time to upgrade! http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.2/

ROM Hacking

Today I packaged a version of Atari x00 Logo to run on the NES. Then, I did a version of the Commodore 64 OS (Basic + Kernal). Since graphics are so different in these systems it's hard to see much, but they run :) Next step is to find a good monitor and assembler and start trapping those OS and graphics calls!

Anyone out there have any links to basic NES tile code?

Example ROM Hacking post on replacing graphics of Super Mario Bros. to make it look like another… Continue
